Karis Academy Attendance Policy
Purpose: The purpose of this attendance policy is to promote regular school attendance, foster a positive learning environment, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
I. Attendance Expectations:
All students are expected to attend school regularly and be punctual.
Regular attendance is vital for academic success, participation in classroom activities, and the development of responsible behavior.
II. Types of Absences:
Excused Absences: Absences due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, religious observances, and school-sponsored activities are considered excused.
Unexcused Absences: Absences without a valid reason, including truancy, are considered unexcused.
III. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities:
Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school of a student's absence on the day of the absence or as soon as possible.
Notifications can be made via phone, email, or a written note. The school will provide contact information for reporting absences.
IV. Documentation for Excused Absences:
For excused absences, parents/guardians may be required to provide documentation, such as a doctor's note or appointment confirmation, within a reasonable timeframe.
V. Consequences for Unexcused Absences:
Unexcused absences will result in academic consequences, including missed assignments or lowered grades.
Repeated unexcused absences may lead to disciplinary actions in accordance with the school's disciplinary policy.
VI. Tardiness:
Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Tardiness disrupts the learning process and may result in consequences, such as detention or loss of privileges.
VII. Makeup Work:
Students with excused absences are entitled to make up missed assignments and tests. Teachers will provide a reasonable opportunity to complete makeup work.
VIII. Truancy Interventions:
Students with a pattern of unexcused absences will be subject to interventions, which may include meetings with school counselors, parents/guardians, and administrators to address the underlying issues.
IX. Attendance Records:
The school will maintain accurate attendance records for each student, and parents/guardians may request access to these records as needed.
X. Legal Obligations:
The school will comply with all legal obligations related to attendance reporting and truancy prevention, as required by local, state, and federal laws.
XII. Communication:
This policy will be communicated to parents/guardians, students, and staff members through the school's website, student handbook, and other appropriate channels.
